The venue for the conference is the Monte S. Angelo University Campus, located in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood. It can be reached by bus from the “Campi Flegrei” metro stop (Trenitalia Metro Line 2), or from the “Mostra” stop (either Metro Line 6 or Cumana Line).
Approximately forty-five minutes before and up to 30 minutes after the start of the morning sessions a bus service will be available for conference attendees from “Piazzale Tecchio” (opposite the “Campi Flegrei” metro stop) to the Monte S. Angelo campus.
Approximately thirty minutes before and up to thirty minutes after the end of the afternoon sessions, a bus service will be available for conference attendees from the Monte S. Angelo campus to the “Campi Flegrei” metro stop. Outside of these time slots, public buses to reach the campus are the 180 and the S6 (approximately 10 minutes).
Outside this time slot, attendees can reach the campus with public bus line S1, S2 or 180. Information about the bus system can be found here.
Reaching Fuorigrotta from the city center
Fuorigrotta is the neighborhood where the engineering departments of the University of Naples Federico II and the Monte S. Angelo Campus are located. Fuorigrotta can be easily reached from the city center via the “M2 trenitalia” metro line, via the “Cumana” (or L9) line, or via the L6 metro line. The stops of interest to take the bus to get to the Monte S. Angelo campus are “Campi Flegrei” or “Mostra.”
The M2 trenitalia metro line connects the central station (Piazza Garibaldi) to Pozzuoli. Stops are: Piazza Garibaldi (Central Station) -> Piazza Cavour (National Museum / Duomo area, connection with Metro Line L1) -> Montesanto (historic center area, connection with the “Montesanto funicular”, connection with “Cumana” line) -> Piazza Amedeo (Chiaia area, connection with the “Chiaia funicular”) -> Mergellina (connection with Metro Line L6, Chiaia-Mergellina area) -> Piazza Leopardi -> Campi Flegrei (Connection with Cumana line, connection with Metro Line L6).
The Cumana line, also known as line L9, connects the center of Naples with the Flegrean area. Stops are: Montesanto (historic center areas, connection with “M2 trenitalia” line, connection with the “Montesanto funicular”) -> Corso Vittorio Emanuele (upper Mergellina area) -> Fuorigrotta -> Mostra (connection with “M2 trenitalia” line, connection with metro line 6). Here a recent timetable.
Metro line 6 connects Municipio Square with Mostra. Stops are: Piazza Municipio (royal palace area, connection with metro line 1) -> Chiaia (Royal palace area) -> San Pasquale (municipal villa area, seafront area) -> Arco Mirelli (seafront area) -> Mergellina (mergellina area, “M2 trenitalia” metro connection) -> Lala (Fuorigotta area) -> Fuorigrotta -> Mostra (“M2 trenitalia” metro connection, “Cumana” line connection). IMPORTANT: Currently, Line 6 runs service from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The L1 subway line does not offer direct connection to the Fuorigrotta neighborhood, but it runs through much of the city. It allows connections with the “M2 trenitalia” line at the ‘Museo’ stop and with line 6 at the “Municipio” stop. Conference Attendees who choose to stay in the Vomero district can use the “Quattro Giornate”, “Vanvitelli”, “Medaglie d’oro” and “Montedonzelli” stops to reach the ‘Museo’ stop and take the “M2 trenitalia” line to the “Campi Flegrei” stop.
Those who prefer to stay in Vomero and are in the vicinity of Piazza Vanvitelli can opt to use the “Montesanto funicular” from Via Morghen towards Montesanto and then take the “M2 trenitalia” line or the ‘Cumana’ line. Attendees can also take the “Chiaia funicular” at Via Cimarosa towards “Parco Margherita” where there is the “M2 trenitalia” line station at Piazza Amedeo.
